Remedies for Dry Scalp

I've been suffering with extremely dry scalp for about a year now. I can't pin point exactly why it went all floopy and started to flake, but I think it might've been a crappy shampoo that I bought from TK Maxx.

The symptoms are fairly simple - dry, irritated and itchy scalp and, obviously, dandruff. I have good days and I have bad days. On bad days nothing soothes my scalp better than just cool water. It is a very annoying and even embarrassing condition to have, but statistically 1 in 10 people have it.

But look at the bright side - if you have exactly the same problem, I have a few good solutions for you that I have tested for the past 3 months!

Weekly coconut or olive oil mask with tea tree oil is a must! For a spoonful of coconut/olive oil add 4 drops of tea tree oil and it's done! This mask works as a charm, it takes the itchiness away almost instantly. Tea tree oil acts as anti-fungal that kills that nasty bacteria causing itchiness and dandruff. Coconut oil adds exta moisture and it's an overall great remedy for damaged hair as well as flaky scalp.

It's important to have a good shampoo and conditioner specifically for dry scalp. Yes to Carrots Dry Scalp Remedy shampoo and conditioner are probably the best cruelty free products out there! They are not overly expensive and smells nice. I noticed when using other shampoos my dandruff seems to get back to the old habits, while the Yes to Carrots products actually help to control and prevent it.

I know that this might not directly affect or help my dry scalp, maybe it's just a placebo, but leaving my hair to dry naturally seems to help. First of all, it's much better for your hair and minimises heat damage. Second of all, blowing dry hot air onto your head doesn't sound nice when your scalp is dry and irritated.

Let me know if you have any tips and if you suffer with the same condition. #dryscalpcommunityforthewin
